IK Testing in India

CE Marking Certification

What is IK Testing?

IK testing, also known as impact protection rating testing, is a method used to determine the level of protection provided by enclosures for electronic equipment against external mechanical impacts. IK Testing in India is gaining importance as industries seek to ensure their products meet international durability standards. It is primarily concerned with the ability of the enclosure to protect its contents from impact forces. The “IK” code is part of the international standard EN 62262 (the European version of IEC 62262), and was derived from the European standard EN 50102, which itself follows the guidelines of IEC 60068-2-75.

IK testing is a method used to assess the degree of protection an enclosure provides against mechanical impacts, specifically for electrical equipment. This type of testing is essential for determining how well a product can withstand external mechanical shocks that could potentially damage its operational integrity. IK Testing in India is increasingly in demand as industries strive to ensure compliance with global impact resistance testing standards.

Know More about IK Testing

The IK rating system is defined by the international standard EN 62262 (the European version of IEC 62262), which was derived from IEC 60068-2-75. This standard is specifically designed to gauge the capacity of enclosures to protect their contents from external impacts. The IK rating consists of two digits, ranging from 00 to 10, and it directly indicates the level of protection provided against external mechanical impacts.

Here’s what the digits in an IK rating represent:

IK00: No protection.
IK01 to IK05: Protection against varying levels of impact energy, ranging from 0.15 joules to 1 joule.
IK06 to IK10: Higher protection levels, handling impact energies from 1 joule up to 20 joules. For example, IK10 represents protection against 20 joules of impact energy, which is equivalent to the impact of a 5 kg mass dropped from 400 mm above the impacted surface.
Products undergo IK testing by being subjected to impacts from objects of specified sizes and weights, dropped from calculated heights to generate specific energy levels upon impact. The outcome of these tests ensures that products are appropriately rated and can withstand the specified levels of mechanical stress without failure.

CE Marking Certification

This kind of testing is particularly critical for products that will operate in environments where they might be subjected to rough usage or accidental impacts, such as industrial settings, public access areas, and outdoor environments. The IK rating provides crucial information that can help in selecting the appropriate equipment that meets the required mechanical impact protectionenclosure durability, and reliability standards for different operational conditions.
